The delicious smoked-fish-inspired cafe inside the Museum of Jewish Heritage in downtown Manhattan, LOX, is officially taking over the restaurant space inside The Jewish Museum on the Upper East Side.
This space recently housed the only kosher location of Russ & Daughters, which closed during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and never reopened. While the menus between Lox and Russ & Daughters do differ, they are ultimately cut from the same cloth, both serving bagels, variations of smoked fish, and other Eastern European old world meets Lower East Side new world style delicacies.
Lox has been a brunch mainstay cafe in lower Manhattan for nearly a decade, opening in 2016.
The eatery is run by Chef David Teyf, also the culinary mastermind behind the kosher deli Greenwich & Delancey located in Greenwich, CT & in lower Manhattan.
The most popular, and highly recommended offering at Lox is their “Lox 5 Ways” platter, which is intended for two people to share lox prepared in 5 unique styles, and ones you would not expect to find in the fridge section of your local supermarket, along with a smattering of sliced breads & bagels, and sliced veggies to compile your own open faced lox sandwiches.
The menu at Lox @ The Jewish Museum will mimic the menu at Lox @ The Museum of Jewish Heritage.
Diners can expect the same restaurant classics that involve all types of fish sandwiches & plates, salads, toasts, bagels, blinis, caviar, babka, sirniki, garlic potatoes, and more goodies.

Expect the restaurant to launch their soft opening phase this coming Thursday, November 7th.
LOX is adding “High Tea” come December weekdays (Mon & Thurs) at 3pm-6pm.
Hours of operation at Lox will be the same as the museum’s except for Friday & Saturday. They’re expecting to be open Sundays and Mondays from 11-6 and Thursdays from 11-8. The museum is closed Tuesday & Wednesday, as will the restaurant. Additionally, the museum is closed for both a mix of Jewish and federal holidays. Consult their website before visiting.
Lox is kosher certified by the OU, Cholov Yisroel & Pas Yisroel.
The restaurant is located inside The Jewish Museum on the Upper East Side at 1109 5th Ave (corner of E 92nd St), New York, NY.
