Kosher Supervision Has Ended at Savion in Sydney

Savion Sydney is no longer operating under kosher supervision. The Kashrut Authority of Australia has formally announced that the restaurant has chosen not to continue under kosher supervision, effective immediately.

Clarification From the Kashrut Authority

According to the Kashrut Authority, there was no breach of kashrut regulations and the restaurant’s license was not withdrawn. Instead, the kosher license ended by mutual agreement between the Kashrut Authority and the restaurant. The decision was made by the proprietors, who elected not to continue participating in kosher supervision.

Efforts to Maintain Supervision

The Kashrut Authority stated that, over a recent period of time, multiple approaches were explored in an effort to maintain kosher supervision at Savion Sydney. These included adjustments to kosher protocols, the use of CCTV assistance, and even arranging the possibility of external grants to help offset supervision-related obligations. Despite these efforts, the owners ultimately decided not to remain under supervision, citing the cost associated with kosher oversight.

Position of the Kashrut Authority

The Kashrut Authority described Savion as an important part of the kosher takeaway landscape in New South Wales and expressed concern that the proprietors may be underestimating the business impact of operating without kosher supervision. The Authority encouraged consumers to urge the owners to reconsider and once again seek kosher supervision.

The Kashrut Authority further stated that if Savion Sydney chooses to reapply for a license and agrees to meet the required obligations, the license would be readily renewed.

Location and Supervision Status

Savion Sydney is located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. As of now, the restaurant is operating without kosher supervision.
