New “Meat at Jesse’s” Concept Now at Kosher Jesse’s Cafe in Sydney

Major Change at Jesse’s Bakery in Rose Bay

Jesse’s Bakery, a well-known kosher café and bakery in Sydney’s Rose Bay neighborhood, has introduced a major operational shift with the launch of a new meat offering branded as “Meat at Jesse’s.” This marks a significant expansion beyond its traditional dairy bakery and café format, allowing the establishment to now serve a full range of freshly prepared meat dishes.

The new meat operation is housed inside Jesse’s Café but operates from a separate kitchen, allowing the business to maintain full kosher compliance while offering an entirely different menu category. The meat service is currently open Sunday through Thursday from 12pm to 8pm, with additional limited grill hours listed separately.

Focus on Smash Burgers, Schnitzel, and Grilled Meats

The newly launched menu centers around freshly prepared grilled meats, smash burgers, schnitzel, and hot sandwiches. The concept emphasizes made-to-order items using kosher meat and house-made sauces.

Burger offerings include:

  • The Jesse, a single smashed beef patty topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, and house sauce
  • Double Smash Burger, featuring two smashed patties with the same classic toppings
  • Portuguese Chicken Burger, flame-grilled peri-peri chicken breast with lettuce, tomato, Spanish onions, and chili mayo
  • Schnitzel Burger, sourdough-breaded chicken schnitzel served with traditional burger toppings

These items are served with hand-cut chips, positioning the menu firmly in the fast-casual grill category.

Expanded Grill and Specialty Sandwich Options

Beyond burgers, the menu includes several grilled and plated meat options designed to broaden the appeal of the concept.

The Steak Sandwich features chargrilled steak with caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and house-made chimichurri sauce. Another key offering is “The Flatty,” a Portuguese-style flame-grilled chicken available in quarter, half, or whole portions with house-made peri-peri sauce.

Additional options include:

  • Schnitzel plate with sourdough-breaded chicken and chips
  • NY-style kosher beef hot dog with mustard, tomato sauce, and caramelized onions
  • South African boerewors roll with caramelized onions and tomato relish

Side items include hand-cut chips and slaw, along with a selection of house sauces such as BBQ, chili, aioli, and peri-peri.

Expansion Reflects Growing Demand for Kosher Meat Dining in Sydney

Rose Bay is home to one of Sydney’s largest Jewish communities, and Jesse’s Bakery has long served as a central café and bakery destination in the area. The addition of a dedicated meat menu significantly expands kosher dining options locally, particularly in the fast-casual burger and grill category.

By introducing a separate meat kitchen within its existing café footprint, Jesse’s Bakery is able to serve both dairy and meat offerings while maintaining kosher standards. This dual-concept model is increasingly used by kosher establishments worldwide to diversify menus while preserving compliance.

Location and Operating Details

Meat at Jesse’s operates inside Jesse’s Café, located at 443-445 Old South Head Road, Rose Bay NSW 2028, Australia.

The meat kitchen operates separately from the café. Current meat service hours are Sunday through Thursday from 12pm to 8pm, with additional grill hours listed as Wednesday and Thursday from 3pm to 7pm.

Jesse’s is kosher certified under the KA.
