SOFT OPENING: New Kosher Asian Treats & Boba Drinks “Uncle Mochi” in the 5 Towns

Located in the former Patis Cafe behind the Kiss & Makeup on Central Avenue, Uncle Mochi is a brand new kosher mochi, boba, and Asian dessert cafe, bringing never-before-seen menu items to the kosher community in the Five Towns, currently under a soft opening phase.

Uncle Mochi is a new concept currently bringing boba drinks, hot and iced wood-roasted coffees & frappuccinos, mochi waffles & waffle fries (gluten-free), frozen yogurt, refresher drinks (made with Perrier), matcha lattes, as well as smoothies and panini sandwiches coming soon.

Mochi is a Japanese rice cake made from glutinous rice, also known as sticky or sweet rice. The rice is steamed and pounded until it forms a smooth, stretchy dough, which can then be shaped into small cakes. This soft, chewy treat can be enjoyed on its own or filled with sweet fillings like red bean paste, fruit, or even ice cream.

Mochi is gluten-free. Despite the term “glutinous rice,” it doesn’t contain gluten; the name refers to its sticky texture. However, flavored or processed mochi products, such as mochi ice cream or flavored mochi snacks, may have added ingredients with gluten. It’s always good to check labels if you’re avoiding gluten!

Uncle Mochi is currently making boba fresh throughout the day for their brown sugar boba drinks, and soon for their teas too.

Uncle Mochi is completely nut-free, mostly gluten-free, Cholov Yisroel, Yoshon, and under the kosher certification of the Vaad of the Five Towns.

The soft opening hours for Uncle Mochi are Sun-Thu 10am-7pm and Fridays 10am-2pm. Stay Tuned for Motzei Shabbat hours in the future. NOTE: After Kiss & Makeup closes daily, the cafe is only accessible from the back entrance.

Uncle Mochi can be found at 500 Central Ave in Cedarhurst, NY, behind the Kiss & Makeup shop. You can also access the cafe directly from the parking lot behind the shop on Willow Ave.
