Reubens Deli Set to Reopen in London Following Fire

London’s historic Reubens, a staple of the city’s kosher dining scene since 1973, is making a highly anticipated comeback in Spring 2025. The legendary kosher deli, located at 79 Baker Street, has undergone a £1 million restoration following two devastating fires in 2024. The reopening marks the return of one of London’s most beloved Jewish eateries, promising to bring back its iconic salt beef sandwiches, along with some exciting menu additions.

A Tough Year, But a Strong Comeback

Reubens faced an unexpected closure after an electrical fire in February 2024 caused significant damage. While undergoing repairs, a second fire in August 2024 further delayed restoration efforts. However, thanks to a full-scale renovation by The S Group, which operates over a dozen kosher restaurants in London, the deli is now set for a grand reopening.

The revamped menu will maintain fan favorites like salt beef, pastrami, and classic rye sandwiches, while also introducing freshly baked bagels and expanded sandwich offerings. Longtime Reubens chef Manuel, who has spent over 30 years crafting the restaurant’s signature dishes, will be returning to lead the kitchen. He will be joined by Executive Chef Hodaya Cohen, a former head chef at the Ritz-Carlton Herzliya’s Herbert Samuel restaurant, who will bring an elevated touch to the deli’s offerings.

Reubens Café & Bakery: The Modern Expansion

While the deli was undergoing renovations, Reubens made waves in the kosher dining scene by opening Reubens Café & Bakery in August 2024. Located at 52 Baker Street, just steps from the deli, the café introduced Central London’s first kosher dairy eatery, offering an array of bagels, sandwiches, salads, pastas, and fresh-baked pastries. The café quickly became a popular destination for kosher diners looking for a casual yet high-quality dairy experience.

The success of the café proved that London’s kosher dining scene was not only resilient but thriving, reinforcing the demand for Reubens’ signature brand of Jewish cuisine. Now, with both the deli and café set to operate simultaneously, kosher food lovers will have more options than ever in the heart of London.

What to Expect

The return of Reubens is not just about restoring an iconic eatery—it’s about reintroducing a piece of London’s Jewish heritage. The deli’s reopening will include a mix of classic deli dishes, modern updates, and a refreshed lower ground floor dining experience.
