The popular gluten-free kosher dairy restaurant, Modern Bread and Bagel, opened its second LA location in Santa Monica. It comes following a successful pilot launch in Woodland Hills of October 2022.
Prior to opening in LA, Modern Bread and Bagel gained popularity in New York with locations on the Upper West Side and Chelsea. Its owner, Orly Gottesman, started Modern Bread and Bagel after dealing with her own experiences trying to find gluten-free kosher restaurants for her husband, Josh Borenstein, to eat at. They also own a kosher gastropub on the Upper West Side called Thyme and Tonic.
Modern Bread and Bagel offers an authentic-tasting New York bagel – entirely gluten-free, alongside pastries, sandwiches, salads and bowls.
Some of their staples include the Avo & Smoke, an avocado toast with smoked salmon, tomato, pickled onion, arugula and lemon, in addition to the bounty bowl, which includes sweet potato, quinoa, chopped kale, roasted brussel sprouts and avocado tossed with a balsamic vinaigrette.
The Santa Monica location also operates under IKC kosher supervision and is located at 1511 Montana Avenue in Santa Monica. It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
