Kosher Roman Cuisine is Back in NYC: Casa Tevere

A Beloved Kosher Institution Reimagined

After a five-year hiatus, the cherished kosher Italian restaurant Tevere has made a triumphant return to New York City. Now operating under new ownership and the name Casa Tevere, this establishment revives the legacy of its predecessor, which closed its doors in 2019 after decades of serving authentic Roman cuisine to the Upper East Side community.

Casa Tevere quietly opened in late 2024 at 1207 Lexington Avenue, taking over the space formerly occupied by BIS, a Mediterranean eatery that had a brief run starting in 2022. The new restaurant aims to blend the nostalgic flavors of Tevere with contemporary dining experiences.

Roman Flavors, Elevated

Casa Tevere offers a refined kosher meat menu that pays homage to Roman culinary traditions. Signature dishes include Carciofi alla Giudia (Roman-style fried artichokes), Veal Saltimbocca, and Homemade Pasta selections that capture the essence of Italy. The restaurant’s ambiance combines modern elegance with classic Italian charm, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere for diners.

Beyond the signature offerings, Casa Tevere features an expanded menu that reflects a modern interpretation of traditional Italian dishes. Items such as duck confit arancini, braised short ribs over saffron risotto, roasted beet carpaccio, and polenta fries bring a fresh, seasonal flair to the dining experience. The house-baked focaccia and carefully sourced ingredients add a gourmet edge, while staying true to the comfort food roots that Tevere was originally known for.

The reopening of Casa Tevere marks a significant moment for kosher dining enthusiasts in New York City. By honoring the rich history of Tevere while introducing fresh perspectives, Casa Tevere offers a unique and satisfying experience for both longtime fans and new patrons seeking authentic kosher Italian cuisine.
