Playa del Carmen’s Grand Hyatt to Drop Kosher Options This Summer

Travelers seeking kosher-friendly accommodations in the Riviera Maya are about to lose one of the few resort options offering kosher food. Effective July 31, 2025, the Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen Resort will no longer be part of the Hyatt portfolio and will cease offering kosher-friendly options. The resort will transition to a new hotel brand and will begin operating as an adults-only, all-inclusive property. Unfortunately, the resort’s current kosher offering—including the in-house kosher restaurant The Grill—will be discontinued at that time.

This marks the end of an important chapter for kosher travelers in the region, as Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen was a unique property providing luxury accommodations with the added convenience of on-site kosher dining. Guests with existing reservations should note that all bookings will still be honored, but kosher services will not be available after the transition date. For those with questions about future reservations, Hyatt has advised contacting their Global Care Center directly.

Playa del Carmen Still Remains Kosher-Friendly

While this closure is disappointing, Playa del Carmen remains one of Mexico’s most vibrant tourist cities with an active kosher scene. Visitors can still enjoy a range of kosher dining options in town, from kosher meat restaurants to pizza, cafes, and takeout services. Travelers are encouraged to download the Kosher Near Me app to explore up-to-date kosher restaurant listings in Playa del Carmen and beyond.

Alternative Resorts with Kosher Options in Riviera Maya and Cancun

If you’re looking for a resort experience that still includes kosher offerings, here are a few properties in the Riviera Maya and Cancun areas that continue to cater to kosher guests:

1. Banyan Tree Mayakoba – Riviera Maya

Located within the exclusive gated Mayakoba resort enclave, Banyan Tree Mayakoba is an ultra-luxury beachfront resort known for its refined service and eco-conscious design. What makes this property notable for kosher travelers is its fine-dining steakhouse, The Ember, which can coordinate kosher meals upon request. The Ember features wood-fired grilling and open-flame cooking, and the staff has experience sourcing kosher meats and ingredients in cooperation with local kosher suppliers and Chabad. This is an excellent choice for those seeking both privacy and bespoke kosher arrangements.

2. Nizuc Resort & Spa – Cancun

For travelers seeking tranquility and top-tier service in Cancun, Nizuc Resort & Spa offers kosher-friendly accommodations with a strong reputation among Jewish travelers. The resort can prepare pre-packaged kosher meals that are either Chalav Yisrael or Glatt Kosher, available for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Guests must arrange these meals a minimum of 24 hours in advance, and all kosher food is served double-wrapped and heated appropriately. Nizuc partners with local kosher providers to ensure proper supervision and is regarded as one of Cancun’s most elegant and accommodating resorts for kosher needs.

Plan Ahead

For kosher travelers heading to Mexico, advance planning is crucial. With the closure of kosher offerings at Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen, guests will need to rely more heavily on local kosher restaurants and outside catering services.

To avoid surprises, always confirm kosher arrangements in writing and double-check certifications. Whether staying in Playa del Carmen, Cancun, or the Riviera Maya, kosher travelers still have options—it just takes a bit more coordination than before.
