Tokyo’s New Kosher Dining Destination, David’s Deli, Replacing Chana’s Place

Tokyo’s Only Kosher Restaurant Opens Under Chabad Supervision

Kosher dining in Tokyo has a new home with the opening of David’s Deli, now the city’s sole kosher restaurant. Supervised by Chabad of Tokyo’s Chief Rabbi Mendi Sudakevich, this establishment follows the closure of the long-standing Chana’s Place. David’s Deli essentially replaces Chana’s as the only kosher restaurant in Tokyo, offering a refreshed and expanded menu just a short distance from its predecessor’s location.

Note on Chana’s Place: while they will no longer be available as a dine-in restaurant, they will stick around and serve as a kosher caterer. They can be reached on WhatsApp.

A Fusion of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Japanese Flavors

David’s Deli presents a diverse menu that blends Mediterranean and Middle Eastern classics with Japanese-inspired dishes. Patrons can enjoy sandwiches featuring tuna, salmon, omelette, chicken schnitzel, chicken pargiot, and falafel served in pita, as well as hamburgers accompanied by fries. The Japanese offerings include beef ramen with rich umami broth, yakisoba noodles with vegetable, egg, or chicken, grilled yakitori, and crispy fried chicken.

Middle Eastern favorites are well-represented, with options like hummus, shawarma, chicken and beef kebabs, and the Buskara Asado—a flavorful pulled beef dish. Appetizers such as Thai-style summer rolls, Nepalese momo dumplings, samosas, and sigar pastries add to the eclectic selection.

Fresh Salads and Light Bites

For lighter fare, the deli offers a variety of salads, including garden salad, spicy carrot salad, Mediterranean quinoa, couscous, coleslaw, and cabbage salad. These options provide a refreshing complement to the heartier main courses.

Location, Certification, and Operating Hours

David’s Deli is located at 5 Chome 13-13 Mita, Minato City, Tokyo 108-0073, Japan, situated near Shirokane-Takanawa Station. The restaurant is kosher-certified by Chabad of Tokyo, under the supervision of Chief Rabbi Mendi Sudakevich.

Operating hours are Tuesday through Saturday, with lunch service from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM and dinner service from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM. The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
