After a sudden and quiet closure earlier this year, Chimichurri Charcoal Chicken is set to make its return. The popular kosher eatery, known for its flavorful grilled chicken and Latin American-inspired sides, will reopen its 5 Towns location in Lawrence, NY with a soft opening scheduled for next week.
A Closure That Left Fans Waiting
In April 2025, both Chimichurri locations, Carle Place and Lawrence, abruptly closed their doors without public explanation. Brown paper covered the windows, and neither location made official announcements about the shutdown. As reported at the time, the closures were linked to pending renovations and ownership transitions, but no timeline was ever confirmed.
Community speculation and concern followed, especially as the restaurant had long been a go-to for grilled chicken and hearty meals in a casual setting.
New Ownership and a New Beginning
The 5 Towns location, in Lawrence, is now being revived by new owners who are reportedly longtime fans of the brand. They are bringing back Chimichurri with a fresh perspective and have tapped original team member Tzvika to remain on as a consultant to help guide the relaunch.
The new team is eager to make improvements while staying true to the concept that built Chimichurri’s loyal following. Customers can expect a few notable changes in the early rollout, including:

- The return of select classic items
- New additions to the menu
Renovations have been underway in the kitchen, dining area, and even the parking lot, with the goal of creating a more welcoming and efficient dining experience.
Kosher Certification Now Under the Vaad
In a major development, the new Chimichurri in the 5 Towns will now be certified by the Vaad Hakashrus of the Five Towns. This marks a return to a relationship that ended years ago due to a dispute between the former ownership and the Vaad. The new team has reestablished that connection, and the Vaad has publicly welcomed Chimichurri back into its roster of certified establishments.
This change is likely to be a draw for many in the community who previously held off due to the differing certification in past years.
Future Plans Still in Development
For now, only the 5 Towns location is reopening. No final decision has been made regarding the Carle Place store. The current focus is on successfully relaunching the Lawrence restaurant and reintroducing it to the local kosher dining scene. The new owners have expressed interest in expanding down the line, but one store at a time remains the current approach.
