Relaunched in Midtown as a Steak & Sushi Omakase Restaurant: Bonito 47

Bonito, the second upscale kosher restaurant of Chef Josh Kessler after his Barnea Bistro continues to excel in Midtown East, has officially closed its doors in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood and has been reinvented in Midtown.

Located between Times Square and the Diamond District on w47th street, Bonito 47 is the reincarnation of Bonito, with a larger restaurant space that can seat more than double the volume of guests (now 150), this iteration of the restaurant comes with a major menu change and upgrade. The restaurant officially opened today to welcome guests for the first time.

The physical space is on the lower level, requiring the elevator or stairs down. The dimly lit, elegant space has a main dining room, Omakase sushi bar, private room that seat up to 30 guests, and a well-stocked bar staff by mixologists.

Bonito 47 is offering a kosher restaurant first, two omakase options: a ten course $250/pp Steak Omakase meal and an eighteen course $285/pp Sushi Omakase offering.

The restaurant is no longer partnered with Akimori, the upscale sushi omakase restaurant group with multiple locations in NY & NJ, as it was in its former location. Bonito 47 is sourcing fish daily from Japan to satisfy its top-quality omakase and sushi program.

In true fashion from Chef Josh, the impressive menu offers an array of steaks, signature dishes like duck confit, short rib ravioli, gnocchi, as well as breaded veal, New Zealand king salmon, and familiar appetizers from Bonito’s previous menu. The sushi menu includes a mix of signature rolls, appetizers, hand rolls, and sake.

The restaurant also boasts an impressive lunch menu, offering both a $36 sushi lunch special and a $42 3-course prefix lunch special.

Desserts include house-made cannoli, bread pudding, pavlova and more.
