A new complex is in process of being built in the Wicker Park section of Chicago, and the local Chabad has secured the ground floor storefront which will be a kosher version of the popular Gino’s East (non-kosher) pizzeria to be named “Gino’s East Vegetarian”. The building and store will likely not be ready to open until the fall of 2015.
The Bucktown Wicker Park Chabad Jewish Center worked with the Gino’s East ownership to create a kosher version of the well known eatery that will feature Chicago’s famous deep dish pizza and obviously leave out meat (a popular topping in non-kosher deep dish pizza), hence the adding of “Vegetarian” in the name, as to not turn off non-Jews from eating there.
The building will also house a Chabad shul, mikvah, and other unrelated stores.
