GRAND OPENING: French / Japanese Nikkei Restaurant in NYC: Nomé

Following the news of Mocha Red’s closure, a new kosher French Nikkei restaurant is taking its place, starting this week. Naftali Abenaim, owner of Mocha Burger and other “Mocha” restaurants, officially announced the opening of Nomé on July 7, which mixes French sophistication with Japanese-Peruvian cuisine (known as Nikkei).

Lunch and dinner reservations will start July 8 while Friday and Sunday brunch will launch soon.

The style comes following a wave of Japanese chefs immigrating to Peru and creating new dishes. The new space will include hand-drawn murals drawn from both cultures. All serving dishes are hand-crafted, originating from Columbia with an artisanal flair to provide a more authentic feel.

Led by Chef Santiago Chiuz, Nomé will include dishes like the Grilled Butterfly Branzino, a Healthy Yakijake Steelhead Trout Fillet cooked over charcoal and a variety of grass-fed, prime beef. The menu will also include a Le Cabernet Prime Burger, sourced from two countries, in addition to a Jurassic Hawk, which is a 50 oz cut of prime beef. 

The restaurant will also include a private collection of ribeye caps, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. As part of its staff, Nomé hired sushi master Hiroji Sawatari to create premium sushi, made fresh daily. 

Reservations are currently available on Resy.

Nomé is now open at 127 4th Ave in New York and will be OU-certified kosher.
