UPDATE: The current personal sign up offer for March 2016 is 35k points & also 35k points for the business card!
The best just got better. I’ve written many times about why I love the SPG American Express card as my favorite credit card, where the vast majority of my spending goes. There were a few things about it that held it back from being completely far and away the best card, but that’s changing.
But first …
The limited time sign-up bonus has been raised from 25k to 30k Starpoints with only a $3k spend to hit the bonus for the personal card, and $5k spend on the business card (Offer Expires 9/14/15). The extra 5k Starpoints are easily worth $100 or more if used correctly.

I have the business card but do not have the gold status. I have what they called Preferred Plus
Hi Judith, that’s odd. Never heard of Preferred Plus, perhaps that is new? I’ve never stayed enough nights to actually earn Gold, so it’s definitely my card. Perhaps your SPG account and CC aren’t properly linked?
Very odd.
Hi Dani,
I get the crossover rewards on my delta account, but that is because I have an Amex Gold card. So maybe you are right that the 2 accounts are not linked correctly or maybe it is that you can not have two cards linked. I can ask SPG about this. I definitely do not have the Gold status, but have many of the items on the Gold list so not really sure. Perhaps it is because I took out the card this year and not earlier. Will let you know what I find out.
Ok. Looked into it real quick and I noticed my error. One needs to spend $30k on the card (either card) annually, for Gold Status.
Editing my post now to reflect that.
Thanks!! Yes I have not spent $30,000 so that explains why I do not have Gold. I do have many of the benefits of Gold as Preferred Guest Plus member
