Rabbi Aaron Mehlman announced that all Pinkberry (frozen yogurt) locations on the Upper West Side are no longer certified kosher under National Kosher Supervision, according to GreatKosherRestaurants.
This applies to the 93rd/Broadway and 70th/Broadway locations. Rabbi Mehlman has withdrawn his hechsher due to the introduction of multiple non-kosher items that include Sugarpova, a non-kosher candy that includes gelatin as one of its ingedients.
For those that eat at Pinkberrys in other parts of the U.S. (that may or may not have kosher supervision), this should be a very clear warning to veer clear from this chain.
This is the email that Rabbi Mehlman sent to the West Side Sephardic Synagogue:
IMPORTANT KASHRUS UPDATE
L’kavod Rabbanim Chashuvim,
Sholom U’bracha, I hope all is well.
I want to bring to your immediate attention that all Pinkberry(frozen yogurt) locations on the Upper West Side are no longer certified kosher under National Kosher Supervision. This applies to the 93rd and Broadway and 70th and Broadway locations.
What happened? Ownership has decided to introduce multiple non kosher items that include “sugarpova,” a gummy candy topping, cookies, and a warmed-up apple pie.
I am therefore withdrawing the hechsher effective immediately.
Please alert your respective kehilos via email, announcements, etc. at your earliest convenience.
Thank you in advance and kol tuv,
Rabbi Aaron D. Mehlman
