The Dunkin on 34th Street directly across from Yeshiva University’s Beren Campus has lost its kosher certification. The location that poured coffee and handed donuts to many years of Stern College students is now serving treif. Kosher consumers should stop buying there.
What Happened
For years this store operated under the hashgacha of Rabbi Aaron Mehlman and National Kosher Supervision. That certificate is gone. National Kosher Supervision no longer certifies this location, which means nothing sold there is kosher anymore. A Longtime Stop for Stern Students and Midtown Workers
For Stern College students, this was the closest kosher coffee run to campus. It sat steps from the dorms and classroom buildings, which made it the default stop between classes and a fixture of the Murray Hill kosher map. Midtown workers and anyone passing through the 34th Street corridor leaned on it for a quick kosher donut and coffee. While coffee is still coffee, all the accompanying pastries and sandwiches are off the table.
What This Means for Kosher Consumers
Stop purchasing food and most drinks at this location. A Dunkin without a valid hechsher is a regular treif Dunkin. The coffee, the donuts, the munchkins, all of it is now off-limits. If this was your spot, you need to look elsewhere.
Other Kosher Dunkin Locations
Rabbi Mehlman certifies other Dunkin shops around Manhattan, and those remain in place. The rule for every one of them stays the same. Look for a current, dated certificate posted in the store before you buy. No certificate means not kosher. This certification loss is the reminder of why that check matters, since a hechsher can be pulled without any change to the storefront or the signage out front.
Dunkin at 140 East 34th Street, New York, NY 10016 is no longer under the supervision of Rabbi Mehlman and National Kosher Supervision. It is no longer kosher.
