Important Patis Bakery Kashrus Update

Patis Bakery’s new shop in Teaneck, NJ

If you’ve been following the Patis Bakery situation, here’s a clarifying update on where things stand with their kosher certification. According to Elan Kornblum of GKR, who spoke directly by Patis’s new ownership, the certification picture has shifted, but the stores remain kosher.

What Changed with the Hashgacha

For the past year, Patis operated under dual certification: the OU alongside the Tartikov Rav, Rabbi Yechiel Babad. The new owners recently determined that carrying both hashgachos wasn’t necessary, and they and the OU parted ways amicably. The OU is no longer certifying the retail locations.

Importantly, the OU has not fully exited the picture. The OU continues to supervise Patis’s commissary in Passaic, NJ, together with Tartikov.

Who is Certifying Now

Going forward, the primary hashgacha across Patis locations is Tartikov Rav (Rabbi Yechiel Babad), with two location-specific additions:

  • The 5 Towns location also carries the Vaad of the Five Towns.
  • The Teaneck location is expected to remain under the RCBC.

All locations are cholov yisroel, and all flour used is Yoshon. Click here to read the hashgacha certificate.

Current Patis Bakery Locations

Per the update shared by Elan Kornblum, the following locations are currently operating under the Tartikov Rav certification (with local additions as noted above):

  • 676 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY 10025 (Upper West Side)
  • 1311 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10128 (Upper East Side)
  • 266 Kingston Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11213 (Crown Heights)
  • 1716 Avenue M, Brooklyn, NY 11230 (Flatbush)
  • 439 Cedar Lane, Teaneck, NJ 07666

The full situation remains fluid as Patis continues working through its bankruptcy proceedings, and additional updates are expected.

It’s worth noting that the 160 Broadway Financial District location is not part of the active certification list. As we previously reported, that location has closed, though whether Patis will reopen it remains undetermined.
