LAST DAY: Izzy’s BBQ Closing UWS Location

Sad Day for BBQ lovers in NYC

Izzy’s Smokehouse has officially announced the closure of its Upper West Side location, with its final day of service happening today, Thursday, Jan 30th. The kosher BBQ spot, located at 660 Amsterdam Avenue near 92nd Street, shared the news on Instagram, thanking customers for their support over the years.

The restaurant shared: “We want to thank you all for your wonderful support throughout the years. It has been a pleasure serving the neighborhood and all its great people. We will be waiting for you with open arms at our Brooklyn location. Our Heart & Home.”

Izzy’s BBQ first opened its Upper West Side outpost in 2020, expanding from its original Brooklyn location in Crown Heights. Known for its Texas-style smoked meats, including brisket, ribs, and pulled beef, Izzy’s built a loyal following among kosher diners and BBQ lovers alike.

The closure highlights the ongoing challenges in the restaurant industry, with rising costs and economic pressures making it difficult for many eateries to survive.

We asked Izzy himself, Sruli Eidelman, to reflect back on the business challenges and what his plans are for the Izzy’s BBQ business: “It’s sad to go after 4+ years but we’re excited to focus on Izzy’s in Brooklyn by launching a new menu in the next few weeks. Growing our catering business and serving the community that we’ve been serving for the past 12 years. Definitely looking forward to the future.”

While Upper West Side customers say goodbye, Izzy’s BBQ flagship location at 397 Troy Avenue in Brooklyn remains open and continues to serve its signature smoked meats.

Today, Thursday, is the final chance to visit Izzy’s Smokehouse UWS at 660 Amsterdam Avenue (off West 92nd Street), with doors open from 12 PM to 10 PM for their last night of service.
