Monticello has long developed a reputation as a vacation village for New Yorkers trying to get out of the Summer humidity while still staying within driving distance. It’s long developed a reputation of being a resort town with hundreds of places to rent, houses and bungalows.
As it grows in popularity, for both vacation guests and year round citizens, the number of kosher restaurants continues to increase to accommodate Monticello’s growing popularity.
Most recently, Mountain Mall Plaza (also known as Mountain Square) is offering residents and visitors a one-stop shop with several kosher restaurants all in one shopping center. It’s hailed as the Biggest Yiddish Shopping Mall in the Catskills

Casa Cava Kosher Pizza
The Monticello pizzeria recently redecorated its store with a big party room in the back, in addition to a game room to accommodate camps and lunch programs.
It mainly offers simple pastas and pizzas, falafel, calzones and sandwiches. Signature items include their specialty pizza, which has olives, mushroom, broccoli, spinach, eggplant and veggie supreme, in addition to their salad bar, which includes dressings like Sweet Chili, Garlic Mayo, Vinaigrette, Honey Dijon and much more.
It is under CRC (Catskills kashrut agency) supervision and is open Sunday – Wednesday, from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., Thursday until 11 p.m., Friday until 5 p.m., and Saturday night motzei Shabbat until 2 a.m.
Upside Craft Burgers Monticello
Upside Craft offers a large variety of burgers and sandwiches, offered for pickup and takeout. The restaurant originated in Brooklyn, but recently moved to Mountain Square this summer.
Items include burgers like the Sunny Upside Burger, which includes lettuce, tomato, pickles, and house sauce topped with an egg sunny side up and the Brooklyn Pastrami Burger, which is their classic burger topped with pastrami on a homemade bun.
They also offer dinner plates with bbq smoked chicken, brisket, sesame chicken and a grilled pastrami. All plates are served with rice and additional sides.
It’s open Sunday – Wednesday from 4 p.m. – midnight and Thursday until 1 a.m.
Satmar Meats
This butcher offers fine cuts of meat at the Satmar level of kashrut. Satmar Meats offers beef, chicken, turkey and deli meat all made available for pickup or delivery.
It offers over a hundred options with meats for all types of events and occasions. Premium items include fillet mignon roast, rib eye steaks, a surprise cut roast, flanken and Cowboy steaks.
Taam Eden Bakery
Taam Eden prides itself on a heimish atmosphere, offering cookies, cakes, and pastries. The bakery offers both pareve and dairy items, with specialty items like cheesecakes, babka, muffins and sandwich cakes.
It also offers a variety of challahs like sourdough, whole wheat, and a heimishe option. For those with dietary restrictions, Taam Eden includes spelt items like rugelach, rainbow cookies and chocolate chip cookies.
