When Bo•re•kas first opened in Fall of 2022, foodies both from the kosher and non-kosher scene alike lined up well before its opening to grab a flaky puff pastry (aka borekas) from Israel. Advertised as being open from 9 a.m. to close, the Sherman Oaks location never stayed open more than a couple hours as its reputation quickly overpowered its capacity to keep up with demand.
Bo•re•kas became the talk of foodie influencers on TikTok and were a point of fascination for food blogs in Los Angeles, with unprecedented popularity amongst Israeli and kosher consumers. Since its opening, Gal and Uzi Waizman, owners of Bo•re•kas and PSY Kitchen, added a second location in Sherman Oaks to handle large orders and outdoor seating.
As a result of its explosive growth, Bo•re•kas now plans to expand to Woodland Hills. It primarily offers four different fillings such as cheese and za’atar, potato and brown butter, spinach and cheese, mushroom, and onion and truffle. All borekas come with medium-boiled eggs, tomato pulp, house-made pickles, and schug. The dough is a mix of traditional phyllo and croissant with brown butter to make a light and delicate pastry.
The new location will be at 19714 Ventura Blvd, with its opening date expected to be announced soon. Like its other locations, Bo•re•kas will be under RCC kosher certification. At its other locations, Bo•re•kas is open Sunday – Thursday from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday until 2:30 p.m.
