Margez Grill House, the kosher Israeli steakhouse that brought Midwood one of its more distinctive dining options, has closed. The Avenue M restaurant is permanently closed.
What Margez Was
Margez opened in May 2022 as a grill-forward concept anchored in Israeli and Mediterranean flavors. The menu leaned into flame-grilled meats, with skewers, lamb chops, and ribeye as signature items alongside sharable appetizers and a burger selection that earned its own following. The dining room had a polished but relaxed feel, which made it work for everything from family dinners to group outings.
It was one of the few spots on Avenue M positioning itself squarely as a sit-down steakhouse experience with a Mediterranean identity, distinguishing it from the area’s more traditional kosher offerings.

A Short Run on Avenue M
At just under three years, Margez had a relatively brief run in the competitive Midwood kosher market. The reason for the closure has not been publicly announced. Avenue M is a high-traffic corridor for the Brooklyn Orthodox community, and operating a full-service steakhouse there comes with significant overhead. No successor concept has been announced for the space at this time.
We wish the Margez team hatzlacha in whatever comes next.
Margez Grill House was located at 1018 Avenue M, Brooklyn, NY 11230. It is now permanently closed. The restaurant operated under the hashgacha of Rabbi Yisrael P. Gornish.
