MIZO is a new kosher restaurant in Ashdod serving Nikkei cuisine, the Japanese Peruvian style that pairs precise Japanese technique with Peruvian heat, lime, corn, and cilantro. It is the first new concept from the OTOTO group, which runs sushi and wok restaurants in Rishon LeZion and Gedera. See the full menu.
The Menu
The menu splits into five parts: raw fish and beef, baos, wok dishes, sushi, and the robata charcoal grill. Launch prices run NIS 54 to NIS 98. The Tuna de Tigre, at NIS 82, combines tuna with avocado cream, corn, scallion, and olive oil in leche de tigre, the citrus-chili marinade behind Peruvian ceviche. A hamachi sashimi comes in a raspberry and yuzu dressing with light soy, purple shiso, and cilantro. Crispy rice carries tuna tartar with wasabi, avocado, and nori.
On the cooked side, a veal sweetbread tataki at NIS 64 comes with shishito peppers and a chili-oil ponzu. The duck bao at NIS 68 adds jalapeno and pickled cucumber. The boldest dish is the lengua at NIS 58, beef tongue cooked in soy and sake, then seared on the plancha with red chili and a yuzu hot sauce. The robata section tops out with a yakiniku flat iron at NIS 98, served with a bone-marrow sauce, pear, black pepper, and coconut cream.

Three Chefs, One From Noma
Three chefs built the menu: Gal Vanunu, the OTOTO group chef, Guy Liv, and Guma Galili. Galili ran a seasonal restaurant in Goa for more than a decade, another in Ibiza for three years, and spent several months working alongside Rene Redzepi at Noma in Copenhagen. In 2024 he opened Gaijin, a Japanese izakaya in Tel Aviv. The Ashdod room centers on a cocktail bar, and the restaurant books private events.
MIZO adds a high-end option to Ashdod’s kosher dining scene. YeahThatsKosher covered Ashdod’s Limoncello Bar going kosher in 2023.
