Kosher travelers heading to the Cancun area have had limited options for a long time. Dedicated kosher programs pop up seasonally and disappear just as fast, and piecing together meals from local options is not exactly what you have in mind when you’re paying resort prices for a vacation. That’s starting to change.
SLS Playa Mujeres, a luxury beachfront resort located just north of Cancun, has launched a year-round kosher dining program called Liora. And this isn’t a pop-up or a seasonal arrangement. It’s a fully integrated program built into the resort’s all-inclusive structure, available to any guest who books it.

What Is SLS Playa Mujeres?
SLS is a well-known luxury hospitality brand, and the Playa Mujeres property sits on a private stretch of white-sand beach north of the Cancun hotel zone. It runs as a true all-inclusive resort, meaning one upfront rate covers your accommodations, all meals, drinks, and most on-property activities. No bill signing at every restaurant. No keeping track of what you’ve spent on food throughout the day.
SLS Playa Mujeres is not your average all-inclusive. The property is part of the SLS brand, which sits in the upper tier of luxury hospitality alongside names like the Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons. The resort is expansive, beautifully designed, and built for guests who expect a high level of service across every touchpoint. Think private beach, multiple pools, a 20,000 square foot spa, butler service options, and rooms that range from swim-out suites to rooftop jacuzzi duplexes.
For kosher travelers who have historically had to choose between keeping kosher and staying somewhere genuinely luxurious, this property changes that equation.
How Liora Works
Liora is added on to your existing reservation. The cost is $100 per adult per day and $40 per child per day. Once enrolled, all of your kosher meals are covered under the all-inclusive model. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, café items, and in-room dining during operating hours are all included. You are not paying per plate. You are not signing anything at the pool. You just eat.
For kosher travelers who are used to mentally budgeting every meal on a resort trip, or worse, packing a suitcase full of food from home, this is a meaningful upgrade to how a kosher vacation can actually feel.

Hashgacha and Standards
Liora operates under the supervision of the Jewish community of Cancun, led by Rabbi Simantob R. Nigri. The certification is Mehadrin and includes Bishul Yisrael, Pat Yisrael, Glatt Kosher, and Chalak Beit Yosef. There is also a mashgiach temidi on-site.
Where You Can Eat
One of the better aspects of Liora is that kosher food is not limited to one room on the property. Main meals are served in dedicated dining venues for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with separate meat and dairy service.
Lunch and dinner are served at Cleo, the resort’s Mediterranean restaurant. It’s a proper sit-down restaurant experience, not a buffet corner or a separate kosher room tucked away from the rest of the property.
Beyond the restaurants, you can order kosher food delivered directly to your pool chair or beach cabana. There is also a cafe for lighter bites throughout the day, and in-room dining is available during operating hours.

The ability to order food wherever you are on the property is what makes an all-inclusive actually feel like an all-inclusive. Having to walk across a resort every time you want a snack defeats the purpose.
All menus are shared below.

The Food
Breakfast is dairy and runs like a proper hotel breakfast should. There are eggs to order cooked however you want, a dairy shakshuka with poached eggs in spiced tomato sauce, smoked salmon bagels with cream cheese and capers, French toast, waffles, vanilla pancakes, and oatmeal. On the cold side you have a full cheese board with Manchego, Gouda, Panela, and Camembert, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, artisanal breads, croissants, and fresh juices. It’s a solid spread and a genuinely good way to start the day.
Lunch is served at Cleo and leans Mediterranean with an outdoor grill component. You can order a whole fish cooked to order, seared tuna with fennel salad, chicken wing kebabs, a kefta shish kebab, a chicken gyro, or an islak burger with fries. Starters include tabbouleh, beetroot hummus, grilled eggplant, and a crudo of the day. It’s a meat meal, so keep that in mind if you’re coming off breakfast.

Dinner at Cleo is where things get more elevated. The menu is built around Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors with starters like lamb cigars in phyllo pastry, hummus with roasted lamb and pine nuts, yellowfin tuna tartare with avocado, and a striped sea bass ceviche. Mains include a braised leg of lamb with rice and nuts, Moroccan-style salmon with saffron, grilled local sea bass with chermoula, and kebab options including chicken shish and beef skirt steak. Desserts include baklava with pistachio and lemon honey syrup, a blueberry and pear crumble, and chocolate cake with black cherry.
For poolside and beach dining, there’s a dedicated Liora menu with starters like bluefin tuna sashimi with citrus soy dressing and pickled cucumber, and mains including a beef burger, chicken gyro, and kefta shish kebab. The fact that this menu exists and can be ordered directly to your chair or cabana is one of the more practical and appreciated parts of the whole program.
Vegetarians and gluten-free diners are well covered across the menus. At breakfast, options like the dairy shakshuka, waffles, yogurt, granola, and the full fruit and cheese spread work for vegetarians without any substitutions needed. Throughout the day there are dedicated vegetarian dishes including the mushroom shawarma, falafel, grilled eggplant, tabbouleh, beetroot hummus, and stuffed bell pepper. Many dishes across the lunch and dinner menus are also marked gluten-free, and the kitchen’s use of naturally gluten-free grains like rice alongside fresh fish and vegetable-forward dishes means gluten-free guests have real options at every meal, not just an afterthought side dish.

Shabbos
The all-inclusive structure is particularly well-suited for Shabbos. Since everything is prepaid, there are no financial transactions to navigate on Shabbos. You show up, you eat, you enjoy the resort. Shabbos meals are prepared in advance, and guests can remain fully on property for all meals without any of the usual friction. For families especially, this is a significant quality of life improvement over the typical resort Shabbos experience.
The Shabbat menu itself is worth calling out. It starts with traditional challah for the blessing alongside an artisan selection of Middle Eastern breads, a full kosher meat charcuterie board with options like pastrami, roast beef, corned beef, beef chorizo, and smoked turkey, plus dips and spreads including hummus, babaganoush, and muhammara.
There’s a cold station with gefilte fish, Israeli salad, tabbouleh, and glazed carrots, and guests choose from soups including beef consommé, chicken broth, leek and potato, and portobello mushroom. Mains include smoked beef brisket, braised lamb, roasted chicken, beef cholent with beans and potatoes, and Moroccan-style salmon.
There’s also a dedicated kids menu with chicken nuggets, schnitzel, beef burger, and meatballs in marinara sauce. It’s a proper Shabbat meal, not a stripped-down hotel version of one.

Groups, Yeshiva Week, and Passover
The resort has already hosted large groups of kosher guests during Yeshiva Week with added programming and entertainment on top of the standard offering. For families, shul trips, or any kind of group travel, the all-inclusive model makes coordinating food across a group much easier than managing individual meals at outside restaurants. Kosher catering is also available for private events and celebrations.
Note that the resort is taken over by a dedicated Passover program during the holiday this year, so that period is not available for independent bookings under the Liora package. Outside of Pesach, the kosher program is available essentially year-round.
Rooms and Suites
The property has a few different room categories, and the variety works well for different types of travelers.
Standard rooms come in Delight and Captivate configurations, with options for ocean views, jungle views, or swim-out access where your terrace opens directly to a pool. These are a solid choice for couples. The swim-out rooms in particular are very popular and worth booking early.
For families, the Captivate Swim-Out Family Room includes a king bed and pullout, giving you the extra sleeping space without booking multiple rooms.

The Suites tier includes the Euphoria Suite and Luxuriate Suite for couples looking for something more elevated, and the Envy Three-Bedroom Suite for larger families or groups. The Envy has an expansive outdoor terrace with ocean views and is one of the better options on the property if you’re traveling with a bigger crew.
At the top end is the SLS Elite category, which is a meaningful step up from standard rooms. Elite guests get personal butler service, private check-in, exclusive pool and beach access, priority dinner reservations, and premium beverages. Some Elite rooms are duplexes with rooftop jacuzzis. If budget allows, it’s worth considering.
All rooms come standard with a Lavazza coffee maker, walk-in rainfall shower, mini bar, and Ortigia bath amenities.

Pools, Beach, and Where to Swim
The resort has four pools, each with a different vibe, so you’re not stuck with one scene for the whole trip. There’s a family pool with the splash zone right alongside it for kids, an adults-only pool with more of a day club atmosphere for when you want something livelier, and additional pool areas for general use. Whether you want background music and a social scene or a quieter spot to read and decompress, you can find it without leaving the property.
If you book a swim-out room, you essentially have your own private pool access off your terrace. It’s one of the more popular room configurations at the resort and a genuinely nice way to start the morning without having to go anywhere.
Beyond the pools, the beach at Playa Mujeres lives up to its reputation. The water is that Caribbean turquoise that looks almost unreal in person, the sand is soft, and the beach is private and relatively uncrowded compared to the hotel zone further south. Full food and beverage service runs on the beach, which for kosher guests means Liora food delivered straight to your chair or cabana. SLS Elite guests have their own dedicated beach and pool area separate from the main resort.
For something quieter, the Ciel Spa has its own outdoor tranquility pool and thermal baths as part of its 20,000 square foot wellness facility. It’s a different kind of swimming experience and worth an afternoon if you’re looking for a slower pace. Note that spa treatments carry a separate fee outside the all-inclusive rate, but the spa facilities themselves are worth exploring.
The resort also has a private marina for guests who want to take in a different side of the property. It’s a nice spot to stroll, take in the scenery, and use as a jumping-off point for water sports and excursions.
Spa and Fitness
The Ciel Spa is over 20,000 square feet and includes thermal baths, an outdoor tranquility pool, and 20 treatment rooms. It’s a legitimate spa, not a hotel afterthought. Note that spa treatments are not included in the all-inclusive rate and carry a separate fee. The SLS Sculpt fitness center has state-of-the-art equipment and expert trainers on site, and a full activity list is available for guests who want structured workouts during their stay.
Entertainment and Activities
The resort has a full entertainment program running daily and into the evening, including a cabaret, fire dancing, and live music. There’s a dedicated kids club called Coati Kids Club with programming and activities, a teen lounge with its own space and programming, and a splash zone with a water playground alongside the family pool. Water sports are available from the beach including stand-up paddleboards, seabobs, and jet skis, though motorized rentals carry an extra fee. The resort also has access to an 18-hole Greg Norman-designed golf course on the property, which is available for an additional cost.
Getting There and Getting Around
SLS Playa Mujeres sits in the Costa Mujeres area, about 13 miles north of Cancun’s hotel zone and roughly 35 to 45 minutes by private transfer from Cancun International Airport. It’s actually one of the closer luxury resort areas to the airport despite feeling genuinely removed from the busier strip. Uber does not operate at Cancun Airport, so a private transfer or shuttle is the way to go. Budget around $45 to $65 one way, depending on the service you book.
If you want to venture into Cancun’s hotel zone to check out kosher restaurants, it’s about a 13-mile drive and roughly 25 to 30 minutes by car. For a day trip to Isla Mujeres, the Puerto Juarez ferry terminal is adjacent to the resort, and the ferry crossing takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Ferries run every 30 to 60 minutes and cost around $5 to $7 each way. It’s a very easy and worthwhile day or afternoon excursion. For anyone renting a car and looking to explore further, Playa del Carmen is about an hour south, and the Chichen Itza ruin is roughly two and a half hours away. Both are very doable as day trips for guests who want to get off property and see more of the Yucatan Peninsula.

How to Book
You can book the Liora kosher package directly through the SLS Playa Mujeres website. The kosher dining option shows up as an add-on when selecting your rate in the booking engine. You can get started here: slshotels.com/playa-mujeres/kosher-dining
What This Means for Kosher Travelers
For years, a proper kosher all-inclusive resort vacation in the Cancun area just wasn’t really an option, although Cancun definitely has its fair share of kosher dining options. Liora at SLS Playa Mujeres is a serious attempt to change that, with Mehadrin-level supervision, a mashgiach temidi, and full access to kosher food across the entire resort built directly into the all-inclusive experience. Kosher guests aren’t being accommodated on the side. They’re getting the same vacation as everyone else.
If you’ve been waiting for a good reason to give the Cancun area a real shot as a kosher vacation destination, this is worth a close look.
