Lehrhaus Tavern to Open 2nd Location in Washington D.C.

Lehrhaus, a non-profit Jewish tavern for learning to go alongside a kosher bar and tavern, plans to open in Washington D.C. early next year and plans a nationwide expansion to eight locations by 2030.

The tavern aims to look for cities with young Jewish populations and aren’t major metropolises like Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. Lehrhauis is currently looking for a director with Jewish education experience to lead the charge in their D.C. opening.

The menu draws from a variety of Jewish cuisine and changes frequently. Its Boston menu features a unique, Jewish twist on typical bar food with dishes like the Haus Herring Tartine, which has cultured butter, labneh and pickled peppers, a Mac + Cheese Kugel with a carrot tzimmes slaw and a Beet “Pastrami” Reuben with haus rye, Russian dressing and fries.

Lehrhaus’s menu is also written to look like a page of Gemara with small explanations of each dish surrounding the menu.

Location and kashrut certificate to be shared at a later date.
