NEW: PopUp Bagels Opens Kosher Spot in Tenafly, NJ

PopUp Bagels, the hot-bagel chain behind the “Grip, Rip and Dip” craze, opens its first Bergen County shop this Friday, October 9, in Tenafly, New Jersey, and the new location is kosher certified. It is the chain’s second New Jersey store, following its July debut in Westfield.

The Tenafly Grand Opening

The grand opening celebration runs from 7:00 to 11:00 AM on Friday with hot bagels, iced tea from Saint James Iced Tea, and a limited-edition Capon’s Carrot Cake Schmear created with chef Josh Capon of Capon’s Chophouse in Hackensack. The Tenafly-exclusive schmear is available while supplies last. PopUp Bagels previously ran pop-ups in Tenafly and Midland Park before signing a lease for a permanent shop on Washington Street, and plans at least two dozen New Jersey locations.

The PopUp Bagels Concept

PopUp Bagels is not a typical bagel store. There is no slicing, no toasting and no breakfast sandwiches. Bagels come out of the oven hot, are sold whole by the bag, and are meant to be torn apart and dipped into whipped schmears. The lineup is plain, salt, sesame, poppy seed and everything.

Founder Adam Goldberg, a New Jersey native who grew up in Livingston and Short Hills, launched the brand as a pandemic-era pop-up out of a backyard window in Connecticut. It has since grown to more than 50 locations nationwide. The Tenafly shop is run by franchisee Just Pop.

PopUp Bagels Tenafly Info & Kosher Certification

PopUp Bagels is located at 6-8 Washington Street in downtown Tenafly, NJ 07670, in Bergen County near the Jewish communities of Englewood and Teaneck. Hours are Monday through Sunday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The Tenafly shop is kosher certified under National Kosher Supervision (NKS), led by Rabbi Aaron Mehlman, the same supervision as the chain’s New York locations. The certification covers the bagels (pareve, non-Pas Yisroel) and the plain and scallion cream cheeses (dairy, non cholov yisroel). The rotating flavored schmears are not certified.
