Krispy Kreme Continues Kosher Pullback: All Southern California Locations Remove Certification

Krispy Kreme’s retreat from kosher certification is spreading. Just weeks after six locations in New York and New Jersey lost their kosher status, KSA (Kosher Supervision of America) has now issued a formal kashrus alert confirming that all Krispy Kreme stores in Southern California are no longer under KSA supervision as of March 27, 2026.

The letter, signed by Rabbi Yechezkel Auerbach, Senior Rabbinic Coordinator at KSA, was explicit that the change has nothing to do with any kashrus violation. New ownership of the Southern California franchise operation has simply decided to move in a different direction with regard to kosher supervision.

That’s the same basic story that played out on the East Coast. Different markets, same outcome: new ownership, new priorities, no certification.

What we don’t know yet is whether this is a permanent exit from the kosher market or a transitional period while new ownership evaluates alternatives. KSA has not announced any replacement agency, and there’s been no public word from Krispy Kreme about plans to bring another certifying body on board in Southern California. Until that happens — if it happens — every Krispy Kreme location in Southern California should be considered not kosher.

For the LA kosher community, this stings. Krispy Kreme under KSA had become a rare example of a major national chain with accessible kosher locations, and the SoCal footprint was substantial. This loss, coming on the heels of the NY/NJ closures, makes it increasingly clear that the era of kosher Krispy Kreme as a reliable option across the country may be coming to an end.
