CLOSED New York News

Tempura NYC Has Permanently Closed Near Midtown

After six years in Hell’s Kitchen, Tempura NYC is gone. The kosher rooftop sushi destination at the Cassa Hotel announced this week that it has lost its lease and is now permanently closed, with no advance notice given to guests.

The closure came as a surprise to many in the kosher community. Tempura had carved out a unique niche as a late-night dairy sushi spot with rooftop views, billiards, and a vibe that worked equally well for a casual dinner or a first date. The management’s farewell note acknowledged as much, thanking guests for “allowing us to have a front-row seat to your happy occasions over the last six years.”

If you were a regular, the Lutali family of restaurants is where management is pointing you next. The same ownership operates Lutali locations on Avenue K in Brooklyn and in Toms River, NJ.

On the horizon: Lutali Carne is coming to the Avenue M and Coney Island Avenue corner in Brooklyn, and a dairy Lutali location is also in the works for the Five Towns.

Tempura NYC was located at 511 9th Ave (inside the Cassa Hotel) in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. It was certified kosher dairy and pareve by the OK.
