Israel-Favorite “CRAVE” Street Food Arriving in the 5 Towns

Eric and Chaya Fiedler, the couple behind Woodmere’s Hunki’s, are soon bringing Jerusalem’s Crave to the Five Towns. With a desire to bring a taste of Israel to New York, the Fiedlers reached out to the Israeli restaurant late last year.

After successfully connecting, it is now slated for an opening in mid-August. It promises an all-encompassing dining experience, catering to both casual lunches and elegant dinners.

Background on Crave

Crave is a gourmet street food restaurant located in the bustling Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem. Since opening 8 years ago in the Autumn of 2016, Crave has become known for its diverse menu of kosher street food dishes inspired by American, Mexican, and Asian cuisines. The restaurant is situated just outside the Machane Yehuda shuk and operates from 12 PM to 11 PM from Sunday to Wednesday, extends to midnight on Thursday, and reopens after Shabbat on Saturday evenings.

Chef Todd Aarons, the creative force behind Crave’s menu, has crafted a variety of unique dishes, including kosher cheeseburgers with lamb bacon, pulled brisket burritos, and kosher Reuben sandwiches. The menu also features duck frites, vegan parmesan fries, and a selection of vegan options like the beer-battered portobello sandwich.

Crave in Jerusalem emphasizes using locally sourced ingredients and employs advanced cooking techniques such as smoking, aging, and sous vide.

Known for its lively atmosphere, Crave fits seamlessly into the vibrant environment of Mahane Yehuda Market, making it a favorite spot for both locals and tourists seeking high-quality kosher street food.

Crave is renowned for its delectable American-style Israeli street food. If the Israeli menu is any indication of what might be offered in the U.S., expect to see a few different variations of steak burgers such as the Mendel, which is a steak burger with vegan cheddar cheese, lamb bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, garlic mayo and barbecue sauce. It’s also known for its classic sandwiches, including a Reuben and corned beef sandwich, known as “Lowah Eat Side.”

The venue, formerly West Wing which suffered a fire earlier last year, is now freshly gutted and refurbished, now offering an Israeli vibe. (West Wing will be reopening in a nearby location in the 5Towns plus another location in Brooklyn soon).

Crave Long Island will open in the former West Wing location at 12 Irving Place, Woodmere, NY. We expect the restaurant to open on August 15th.
