Lakewood has no shortage of bakeries, but a Paris-inspired kosher patisserie that went viral before it even had a permanent address is a different story. Viva La Dough, the Cholov Yisroel dairy bakery that made waves with a pop-up outside Macy’s Herald Square and then put down roots on Avenue M in Midwood, is bringing its laminated dough creations to Madison Avenue in Lakewood.
The grand opening is set for May 3rd, 2026.
If you’ve seen the croissant pizzas, the chocolate shell fruit pastries, or the croffles floating around Jewish Instagram over the past year, this is that place. Viva La Dough built a following on the premise that kosher dairy baked goods could be genuinely ambitious, visually stunning, and worth traveling for. The Lakewood location gives the local community direct access without the drive to Brooklyn.

What Viva La Dough Is All About
The concept is built around laminated dough, the labor-intensive technique behind croissants and similar pastries. Viva La Dough leans into that base and then runs with it in multiple directions. Croissant pizzas topped with cheese and truffle oil or margarita basil were fan favorites at the Manhattan pop-up. Croffles, the croissant-waffle hybrid that has been trending in kosher bakeries for a couple of years, are also part of the mix. So are traditional and specialty croissants, dough-based sweets, and elaborate mousse pastries with chocolate shells.

The brand’s tagline is “we craft dreams into edible art,” which sounds like marketing copy until you see the photos. The presentations are genuinely impressive, and the Brooklyn location built a real customer base on the strength of the product rather than just the aesthetics.
The Lakewood space is designed along the same Parisian cafe lines as Brooklyn, with the kind of setting that makes you want to sit down with a coffee rather than grab something to go, though they presumably handle takeout as well.
Grand Opening Details
The May 3rd grand opening will include free pastries from 9am to 2pm, special gifts for children while supplies last, a live DJ, and kids’ entertainment. If you are planning to go that day, factor in that free pastries at a kosher bakery in Lakewood on opening day is going to draw a crowd.

Kosher Certification
Viva La Dough Lakewood is certified kosher cholov yisroel under the KCL (Vaad Hakashrus of Lakewood) and the OU. That dual certification will matter to a segment of the Lakewood community for whom KCL is the local standard.
