New Kosher Sourdough Concept “Se’or Pizza” Opens in Brooklyn

A new kosher pizza shop has opened in Brooklyn under the name Se’or Pizza, introducing a sourdough-focused slice shop to the Avenue K corridor. The concept centers on naturally fermented sourdough dough used across its pizza and baked menu, offering a different approach from traditional New York kosher pizzerias in the area.

The name “Se’or” references sourdough starter, signaling the shop’s emphasis on fermentation, texture, and dough development. Se’or Pizza is run by the group behind That Sushi Spot, The Canteen, and That Coffee Shop, with the help of the well known non-kosher pizzeria WHEATED, of Brooklyn and Kentucky, Se’or brings that classic NYC slice-shop experience to the Kosher world.

Focus on Sourdough Dough

At the core of Se’or Pizza is its sourdough dough, which is used consistently across the menu. The fermentation process is intended to create a crust that balances crispness with chew, while delivering a mild tang associated with naturally leavened dough. This approach aligns with a broader trend toward artisan and fermentation-driven pizza styles, which remain relatively uncommon within the kosher pizza category.

The shop positions itself as a slice-forward operation, catering to walk-in customers looking for individual slices as well as full pies. The sourdough base serves as the foundation for both classic and specialty offerings.

Menu Overview

Se’or Pizza’s menu is built around sourdough pizza, with additional baked items that use the same dough. Offerings include pizza by the slice and whole pies, as well as calzones prepared with the sourdough crust. The menu also features garlic knots and cheese pretzels, extending the use of the fermented dough beyond standard pizza formats.

Cheese selections and toppings are chosen to complement the sourdough base, focusing on balance rather than heavy layering. While the menu is streamlined, it reflects an effort to differentiate through technique rather than volume.

Part of a Growing Brooklyn Kosher Food Scene

The opening of Se’or Pizza adds another option to Brooklyn’s expanding kosher dining landscape, particularly in neighborhoods where pizza remains a staple everyday meal. The sourdough slice-shop model introduces a slightly more technical and process-driven offering to an area known for traditional kosher pizza counters.

By focusing on fermentation and dough quality, Se’or positions itself as a niche alternative within the local kosher pizza market, appealing to customers interested in variations on classic slice-shop fare.

Location, Hours, and Kosher Certification

Se’or Pizza is located at 3005 Avenue K, Brooklyn, NY 11210. The shop operates Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday from 11:00 a.m. until early afternoon, and Saturday night after Shabbat, with late-night service during the winter months.

Se’or Pizza is kosher supervised by Kehila Kashrus and operates with Cholov Yisroel and Kemach Yoshon ingredients.
