Bagels & Co. Regains Kashrut in Queens

Bagels & Co. is back under kosher supervision. The Vaad Harabonim of Queens (VHQ) announced that the longtime dairy bagel shop on Union Turnpike in Fresh Meadows has resolved its outstanding kashrus issues and returns to VHQ certification as of Sunday, June 28, 2026.

What Happened

Bagels & Co. lost its VHQ certification earlier this month due to a serious kashrus violation. The Vaad did not publicly detail the nature of the issue at the time, and consumers were advised to treat the establishment as not kosher certified for the duration of the lapse, but it has come out that violation was due to unchecked lettuce and dispute with the ownership.

That lapse is now over. The Vaad’s new advisory states plainly that all outstanding kashrus issues have been resolved, clearing the way for the shop to resume operating under its longstanding hashgacha.

A Fresh Meadows Fixture

Bagels & Co. has been serving the Fresh Meadows kosher community since 1990, building its name on bagels, bialys, and a full dairy menu that includes omelets, sandwiches, paninis, soups, and pizza. The shop sits along one of Queens’ busiest kosher corridors and has long been a daily stop for residents in Fresh Meadows and Jamaica Estates.

The brief certification lapse didn’t change any of that history. With supervision restored, Bagels & Co. picks back up as the cholov yisroel, yoshon dairy spot regulars have relied on for over three decades.

What This Means for Kosher Consumers

As of June 28, 2026, food purchased at Bagels & Co. is once again under VHQ supervision. Consumers who avoided the shop during the certification gap can resume buying with confidence.

Bagels & Co. is located at 188-02 Union Turnpike, Fresh Meadows, NY 11366. The shop is certified cholov yisroel and yoshon under the supervision of the Vaad Harabonim of Queens (VHQ).
