RECIPE: Excellent Air Fryer Super Bowl Buffalo Wings

Super Bowl Buffalo Wings, by Yehuda Jacobs

Buffalo wings are a Super Bowl staple, but this version, shared by Israeli food creator Yehuda Jacobs (@theisraelfoodie), takes a slightly unexpected turn with a sweet, tangy, and creamy sauce that comes together in minutes. The recipe is designed for the air fryer, delivering crispy wings without deep frying and with minimal prep.

I got to try this recipe this past Super Bowl Sunday after chatting with Yehuda, and I highly recommend it!

The Sauce Formula

The sauce is built on a simple three-part ratio that balances heat, sweetness, and acidity or creaminess, depending on preference. Equal parts of each ingredient are mixed together to create a glossy coating that clings well to hot wings.

The sauce ingredients are equal parts:

  • 1/3 Frank’s Original hot sauce (not the “wings” flavor)
  • 1/3 Brown sugar
  • 1/3 Mayonnaise or Vinegar

Using mayonnaise results in a richer, smoother coating with a mellow heat. Substituting vinegar produces a sharper, more classic buffalo-style bite with extra tang.

Air Frying the Wings

Chicken wings are cooked first on their own to ensure maximum crispiness before saucing. Preheat the air fryer to 400ºF and cook the wings for 25 to 28 minutes, flipping once if needed, until the skin is deeply browned and crisp.

Cooking the wings fully before adding sauce is key, as it prevents sogginess and allows the sauce to coat rather than soak into the skin.

Tossing and Serving

While the wings are still hot, transfer them to a large bowl and immediately pour the prepared sauce over the top. Toss thoroughly so each wing is evenly coated. The residual heat helps the sauce adhere and slightly thicken on contact.

Serve immediately. These wings work well on their own or alongside classic accompaniments like celery sticks and dipping sauces, making them an easy centerpiece for a Super Bowl spread or any casual game-day gathering.

This recipe stands out for its simplicity, bold flavor, and adaptability, proving that great wings do not require complicated steps or frying oil to deliver serious impact.
