The man behind one of New Jersey’s most talked-about kosher pizzerias is heading south. Zev Rocklin, who founded Zevy’s Pizza in Fair Lawn, is opening a brand-new pizzeria in North Miami Beach called Zev’s Pizza, with the doors expected to open within the next four weeks.
“We’re back!” Rocklin wrote in his announcement, sharing that after selling Zevy’s in 2024, he’s bringing his pizza to South Florida. The name is slightly different, but he says the goal is bigger than ever: to make the best pizza you’ve ever had.
From Fair Lawn to South Florida
Rocklin opened Zevy’s on River Road in 2020. It didn’t take long to build a following. Zevy’s was named Best Pizza Restaurant of 2022 by the Fair Lawn Award Bureau, beating out more than a dozen pizzerias in a town that likes to call itself the pizza capital of New Jersey. Saturday night demand got so heavy that Rocklin started taking orders on Friday afternoons and handing out pickup slots in five-minute increments.
Rocklin grew up in Rochester, New York, where there were no kosher pizzerias, and credits his mother’s homemade dough for his love of pizza. Zevy’s is still going strong in Fair Lawn under its current owners, and earlier this year it scored a 7.5 from Dave Portnoy on his One Bite review series. What to Expect at Zev’s Pizza
Zev’s Pizza will serve New York-style pies made with 100% organic flour and no seed oils. The dough is slow-fermented for 72 hours, and every pie comes out of the oven slightly well done. “Crispy. No flop. Just the way pizza should be,” according to Rocklin.
Don’t expect a sprawling pizza-shop menu. Zev’s is launching with a smaller, carefully curated lineup built around one goal: making every pizza as good as it can possibly be. The shop will sell whole pies only, so plan on bringing one home rather than grabbing a slice at the counter.
For North Miami Beach, Aventura and the rest of the surrounding kosher community, it’s a new pizza option from an owner with a proven track record up north.
