Amba in Oakland, CA Likely to Close

Unless there’s a buyout from the local Jewish community, East Bay’s only kosher eatery: Amba, is likely to close in the near future. The restaurant has been open since 2009 and last year Amba switched from serving vegetarian Israeli style food (think falafel & hummus) to meat, adding chicken shwarma & kebabs to the menu.

The owner has expressed his dismay at the general lack of enthusiasm by the local community to support one single kosher restaurant.

San Francisco and the Bay area, in general, does not have many kosher options. This isn’t good news for the local community unless they come together to buyout the owner in the last hour.
