Only Kosher Restaurant Opens in Western Ukraine

The Western Ukrainian city of Zhitomir, about 100 minutes west of Kiev, the local Chabad last week launched the region’s only kosher restaurant.

The restaurant is located on the 30 acre Ohr Avner Chabad Educational Village, which is home to a shul, Jewish day school, two mikvahs, and an orphanage.

There are approximately 5,000 Jews in the town of Zhitomir, but many more in the surrounding areas. The area of Western Ukraine is served by 40 Chabad representatives.
