Russ & Daughters Opening Kosher Cafe in the Jewish Museum (NYC)

Russ & Daughters, an iconic (non kosher) cafe with 2 locations in the Lower East Side, will be opening up their first kosher establishment inside the Jewish Museum on the Upper East Side in Manhattan in early 2015 (museum admission will not be required to dine there.)

We realized that it’s the perfect new home,” said Niki Russ Federman, an owner of Russ & Daughters. “We’re both important cultural institutions. We want to preserve tradition yet move ahead, so there’s a synergy in our values.

The menu items at Russ & Daughters feature quirky-creative names, such as the Mensch and Yum Kippered sandwiches and smoked fish platters named for classic old-time American women names–the Ida, the Hattie, and the Anne.

As of now, the kashrus certifying organization is unknown, but we’ll keep you posted with any news we receive. Stay tuned!
