Over this past weekend 2 kosher restaurants in Montreal were firebombed by makeshift molotov cocktails: Café Shalom on Friday, a private home on Saturday (a Jewish home in the Cote St. Luc suburb), and Chops Resto Bar early Sunday morning. Café Shalom and Chops are down the block from one another on Queen Mary Rd. 30 people were dining inside Chops during the incident, but no one was injured. Chops was firebombed less than a year ago in October 2012. Cafe Shalom was closed during the attack.
According to the article in the Forward, both the police and Montreal’s Jewish Federation, CJA, were quick to announce that they cannot conclude that these attacks were anti-Semitic or hate fueled. Dozens more firebombings have taken place in Montreal over the past few years against non-Jewish businesses as well. [See the map below]
