New Kosher Restaurant in Cancun, Mexico: Dag Dag

dag-dag-kosher-cancun-mexicoLate last year, a new dairy / fish restaurant opened in Cancun. Dag Dag’s website (koshercancunrestaurant.com) details their menu and prices in English.

In doing research on the restaurant, we found one mention – a review of the restaurant from January, which didn’t paint a rosy picture of their service:

dagdag kosher in cancun (bring your own food)

They took our reservation for 17 people but we decided to pick up instead. No delivery even though it says they do on the website. Cost 40 dollars for the cab. Went to the restaurant. 4 people were waiting for dinner and left without eating after waiting 90 minutes! We waited a total of 3 hrs from the time we ordered until MOST of the food was ready (not all). The place was far from hygenic. They told us they fired the staff for not using gloves and thats why it took so long but the owner was picking paper towel off my order with his bare hands. The food was fair at best. They kept telling us how great it all would be but even the fried fish came with the breading having fallen off in the fryer. They took an hour to make french fries and in the end still charged us full price for evreything. Better bet is to bring microwave meals and buy food from walmart as this place was nothing but aggravating.

Considering the restaurant is new, and likely disorganized during their first winter busy season, it’s entirely possible that by now they have their act together. If you’ve visited Dag Dag recently, please comment below and let us know how they did.

  • Even if the service is below par, its still nice to have restaurant options while on vacation.

  • I was just there with my wife another couple. We got there at 8:00PM Motzei Shabbos and they said that they opened up at 9:00PM. They were so hospitable. They took our order for grouper fish and chips. I had a vegetable soup and the table had an assortment platter of falafel, hummos, pickles and home made pita. We waited 45 minutes for the fish and chips because all is made fresh. He was even slicing the grouper. All in all the wait was worth it. The fish was the best batter fried fish I have ever eaten. They opened up two weeks ago in this location and I wish them all the mazal. If you are expecting a fancy restaurant, than this is not for you. If you want good homemade food, enjoy.

  • MAY I SUGGEST THAT YOU READ THE UP TO DATE REVIEWS ON TRIP ADVISER ,GOOGLE AND DANS DEALS REGARDING DAGDAG KOSHER RESTAURANT CANCUN.
.ALSO THE DIRECTIONS AND ADDRESS ON YOUR WEBSITE FOR DAGDAG KOSHER RESTAURANT ARE TOTALLY INCORRECT.THEY ARE ACTUALLY SENDING PEOPLE 15 KILOMETERS IN THE WRONG DIRECTION.DEAR MR KLIEN PLEASE CHECK THAT YOU GIVE CORRECT UP TO DATE INFO ON YOUR WEBSITE AS YOU HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO YOUR FELLOW JEWS
.BY THE WAY IT IS STANDARD PRACTICE TO USE ABSORBANT PAPER TOWELS TO REMOVE EXCESS OIL AFTER DEEP FRYING FOR HEALTH REASONS.

      • Thank you. If there is a way to update the address too, it would really be helpful because some of our clients are still getting lost downtown Cancun, and we have been at the Hotel Zone for almost 4 years.
        Our address is:
Boulevard Kukulcan km. 8.5 Plaza Lagunas ( next to the Lagoon).Regards Esther

  • Been debating weather to write this review for a while, and I feel as though I have an obligation to do so. To put it simply…. I caught the owner taking a piss in the kitchen. Yes you heard that correctly. He used the kitchen as his bathroom. After eating at the restaurant, I walked to the kitchen to get the bill, and saw the owner taking a full on piss into the kitchen drain. This place needs to be closed down. Pots and pans were within the “splatter zone”. He tried to tell me that he was just “putting on cream”, but i know what I saw. I saw him peeing into the drain. Never been so mortified in my life. Felt the need to throw up for days. Not only that, he tried to tell me that “I washed my hands afterwards” as if that made it okay. He chased me down begging me “not to ruin him”, but I have an obligation to the public to let them know. Stay away from this place at all costs.
