KFWE New York Reviews USA

The Best Desserts at KFWE 2013

I’ve been lucky enough to attend The Kosher Food and Wine Experience for the past three years, and it’s always a fun experience. Last year the food really didn’t blow me away and I wasn’t sure I would attend again this year, but I decided to give it one more chance and I was not disappointed.

gotham-burger-dessert-kfwe-2013There was so much choice it was hard to decide just what to write about, but after careful consideration I felt dessert was truly important. After all what is a good meal without good dessert? So here are my reviews of the top desserts at KFWE 2013:

  • Fried Trio – Gotham Burger Company, Teaneck, NJ – Essentially, this was a faux oreo dipped in homemade pareve pancake batter, deep fried till perfectly crispy, then rolled in powdered sugar. Yes I know your mouth is watering. It was probably one of the best things I ate all night. The cookie got all soft and gooey inside, it was really just pure perfection.

  • Dark Ganache and Raspberry Ganache – Miami Beach Chocolates – These chocolates were so good. Rich, velvety, and they did not taste at all pareve. Not usually a fan of raspberry but this was just a really great light raspberry flavor and you still got all the richness of the chocolate. They were a perfect palate cleanser.

  • Chocolate Mousse with Porcini Merengue – Pardes, Brooklyn, NY – When I’m looking for unique I know Pardes will never fail. As usual, they didnt disappoint with their dessert. Two delicious merengues were sandwiched with a thick layer of delectable chocolate mousse. I’m not usually a chocolate mousse Pardes-dessert-kfwe-2013 person, but this was so rich and I could not get over that it was pareve. It was creamy and smooth, and full of rich espresso notes. The Meringues which I’m also not usually a fan of either, were light as air, with a perfect light crunch.

  • Peanut Butter Creme Caramel – Wolf and Lamb, Manhattan & Brooklyn, NY – This was definitely one of the more unique and out of the box desserts. While peanut butter and chocolate are not really out of the ordinary in desserts, making a flan like caramel with them certainly was. All the other desserts fell into the pastry/confectionary category. This was the only dessert like it that night. It was delightfully light and creamy, with the nicest hint of chocolate.

Overall KFWE 2013 was absolutely delicious. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to see you there next year.
