My husband and I were in Denmark for a few days and decided we didn't want to spend and exorbitant amount of money on the kosher hotel just outside the city as we'd been trekking through Europe already for a few weeks. So we ended up calling the local Chabad house literally a few hours before Shabbat. (It turns out that had we called in advance no one would have been there because they were out of town.) Not only, did they welcome us with open arms for the meals, which I might add were delicious, but they insisted we stay by them as well. This was such divine intervention because the hotel we were staying at had electronic everything (doors, sensor hall lights...).

It appears to me that people are posting about any kosher experience they had abroad so I thought I’d throw in that the Chabad in Copenhagen was particularly amazing. When we were there, we didnt get to spend Shabbat there, so we werent able to get into the synagogue. I heard from a friend who went there a few years ago that the synagogue is fairly unfriendly there. Im not sure exactly why?

Thank you Russell for that post. Omitted from this blog is mention of the Kosher Delicatessen at Lyngbyvej 87 which is open most normal hours (Fridays till 1pm) and is reasonably stocked with meat, cheese and the usual comestibles.
Importantly, it's close by a train station (Ryparken - pronounced Rooparken) which is a 20 minute ride from Copenhagen central so if you don't have a car you don't have to use a taxi. When you come out of the station, turn left, up the road, past the traffic lights and the deli is on the right hand side (you will need to cross the road).
When we were in the Great Synagogue it was fairly busy, with two bar mitzvahs. Not especially friendly however.

We were in Copenhagen in late July 2008.
